Black Valley Farm: Purveyors of Hand-Milled Soap

Frequently Asked Questions

What oils do you use in your soaps?
We use 100% olive oil. Some soaps use as little as 10% but they can still promote it as olive oil soap.

How long does it last?
A bar will last 4 to 6 weeks for 2 people with normal use. We recommend unwrapping soap and letting it air 7 to 10 days before using it for the first time. All soaps work better when you do this.

How long does it take to make your soap?
It takes 8 weeks from start to finish to ensure the soap is properly cured.

Does the soap lather well?
Yes. Our soaps have a creamy emollient lather which rinses off cleanly. In commercially made soaps, heavy sudsing often indicates an artificial additive has been used.

Which of your soaps works best for laundry?
We use the basic soap and rub a wet bar on collars and cuffs. You can also shave particles of the soap directly into the washer.

How do you keep your prices so low?
We have found we profit more from low prices and high volume.

Do you sell your basic soap base?
No. We want to continue to offer a high quality finished product.
